PURPOSE: A method for certifying a fingerprint on a portable terminal and a pointing device equipped with a fingerprint recognition function are provided to obtain a big fingerprint image by obtaining the multiple fingerprint images of a small size and sequentially mapping it to a corresponding position of a virtual image space. CONSTITUTION: A fingerprint image sensor(24) obtains the fingerprint image by a fixed cycle. A feature point extractor(25) extracts feature points from the fingerprint image of each time. A motion detector(27) detects motion information of each fingerprint image by calculating displacement data among the feature points of each fingerprint image. A mapper(28) determines the position to map each fingerprint image to the virtual image space(29) by the motion information and maps each fingerprint image to the position. A certifier(30) certifies the fingerprint by comparing the entire mapped fingerprint image with the registered fingerprint image if the entire image is over a predetermined size. An operator(31) calculates a direction/distance to move a pointer by receiving/using the displacement data.
