Disclosed is a method for checking the air pressure of vehicle wheels (7) running on pneumatic tires while operating on seat-optimization machines or test stands, according to which the contact force is measured and the relative position between the vehicle wheel (7) and the revolving drum (12) is determined. Based on the contact force and the relative position, the air pressure of the tire is determined from a specific circumferential rib which is stored for the respective type of tire of the vehicle wheel (7). Also disclosed is a seat-optimization machine for vehicle wheels running on pneumatic tires in order to carry out the inventive method. Said seat-optimization machine comprises a force-measuring device determining the contact force and a displacement-measuring device (15) which determines the relative position of the revolving drum (12) to the receiving spindle (3) that is connected to an evaluation circuit (18), the evaluation circuit being linked to a circumferential rim memory (19).
