The device (10) has a position determination module for determining vehicle position data, a computer unit connected to the position determination module for detecting the traversal of a toll road using the position data and data about toll roads and a transmission module for wireless transmission of data to an external receiver. The detection device has interface for coupling it to a further vehicle component not required for toll payment and can transfer detector device data from/to an input and/or output unit of the further component via the interface.
