The device has a planar inverted F antenna (10) for receiving and/or transmitting electromagnetic signals. The antenna has a radiating unit (12) arranged parallel to a ground plane (14), and directly supports a transponder circuit. A dielectric component (15) is interposed between the radiating unit and the ground plane. The circuit is arranged on a side of the plane opposite to a side in which the unit (12) is placed.
