The invention relates to a device comprising a door (4) for accessing the compartment (3) which is used to house the roll of print tape and optoelectronic means (5) of detecting the presence of the tape close to the print head (2) of the mechanism. Moreover, the inventive device comprises means (6) of inhibiting the operation of the aforementioned optoelectronic tape-detection means (5) when the door (4) is open. Said inhibition means consist of a sealing mask (6) which is guided on the frame (11) of the print mechanism and which can be manoeuvred by the door (4) during the closing thereof, counter to a return spring (10) which positions the mask (6) spontaneously between the optoelectronic means and the print tape.
