Methods for accelerating the provision of funds to a service provider for medical insurance using a smart card are described herein. One method includes obtaining medical insurance from an insurer (100), using the smart card to determine if the user is preauthorized for the advancement of funds (120) and to determine if the servie provider is preauthorized to provide service (130), then transmitting acknowledgement of services from the insurer to the service provider (140), transmitting an amount from th einsurer to the service provider (160), transmitting acknowledgement of the amount from service provider to the insurer (170), and transferring payment quickly from the insurer to the sevice provider (180).
