A probe assembly for an infrared medical thermometer without the necessity to put a plastic film probe cover onto the probe.;The probe assembly includes a plastic probe body (1), an elongated metal made hollow heat sink (2), which holds an infrared sensor unit (4) and conducts the heat increase of the sensor unit (4) during the temperature measurement, a hollow plastic cap (3) tightly fixed between the infrared sensor unit (4), metal heat sink (1), and the inner wall (11) of the probe body (1). Like this, the probe assembly is waterproof and/or airtight, thereby offering an washable probe which can be disinfected after a performed measurement. Therefore, the concern of cross-contamination between patients is reduced.
