Capsular ring for implantation into the equatorial regions of a capsular sac after cataract ablation comprises an open or closed annular body (11) which has square edges and an axial width of 0.3-0.6 mm and comprises segments (18) of rigid material separated by flexible junctions (19). Independent claims are also included for: (1) product comprising a capsular ring as above and an intraoccular implant comprising a central optical portion and a peripheral haptic portion comprising one or more elements extending radially from the optional portion, where the optical portion has a peripheral rim with a square-edged posterior face; and (2) production of a capsular ring as above by either making the annular body from a flexible material and chemically modifying the body to form the rigid segments or making the annular body from a rigid material and chemically modifying the body to form the flexible junctions.
