PURPOSE: Provided is a selenide glass composition for an optical amplifier, which has improved thermal stability while maintaining fluorescence characteristics of praseodymium, a rare earth metal element. CONSTITUTION: The selenide glass composition comprises germanium-antimony-selenium to which a rare earth metal element is added. In the glass composition, the contents of germanium, antimony and selenium are 18-32 mol%, 8-17 mol% and 58-72 mol%, respectively. In a variant, the selenide glass composition comprises germanium-antimony-gallium-selenium to which a rare earth metal element is added, wherein the contents of germanium, antimony, gallium and selenium are 23-32 mol%, 3-12 mol%, 2-7 mol% and 53-62 mol%, respectively. The rare earth metal element is at least one selected from the group consisting of praseodymium, dysprosium, erbium, thulium, terbium and neodymium.
