PURPOSE: An uplink synchronization acquiring method of a mobile communication system, particularly for notifying a terminal of acquired synchronization of uplink by using downlink power control bits, is provided to enhance uplink synchronization acquiring performance by devising a specific TPC(Transmit Power Control) pattern used for downlink TPC and applying a detection method suitable for the TPC pattern. CONSTITUTION: In case that 'n' is 0, altogether there are three cases where an RSE(Random Single Error) can be generated, so a base station transmits three zeros(000), instead of three consecutive TPC bits, as a synchronization acquiring indicator. In case that 'n' is 1 or 2, altogether there are five cases where the RSE can be generated, so the base station transmits five zeros(00000), instead of five consecutive TPC bits, as a synchronization acquiring indicator. In case that 'n' is 3 to 30, the base station transmits six zeros(000000), instead of six consecutive TPC bits, as a synchronization acquiring indicator in consideration of all the cases where the RSE can be generated.
