PURPOSE: A system for transmitting a ring tone by a caller and a service method thereof, particularly for allowing a caller to transmit a ring tone to a terminal of a callee and designate the ring tone of the callee by transmitting predetermined identification code, are provided to allow the caller to express his/her taste and personality by designating the ring tone of the callee. CONSTITUTION: When a caller's mobile terminal(101) requests transmission of a ring tone, an MSC(Mobile Switching Center)(105) requests a callee's mobile terminal(102) designated by the caller's mobile terminal(101) to open a service channel. When the caller's mobile terminal(101) requests call connection with the callee's mobile terminal(102), the MSC(105) transmits an identification code for designing a pre-arranged ring tone together with paging to the callee's mobile terminal(102). When the service channel to the callee's mobile terminal(102) is opened, a sound source server(107) transmits a ring tone stored in a sound source database(108) to the callee's mobile terminal(102). The callee's mobile terminal(102) stores the received ring tone, and reproduces the stored ring tone according to the paging and identification code and outputs it.
