PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for detecting the application of the Tx diversity of a PCCPCH(Primary Common Control CHannel) in an asynchronous W-CDMA system is provided to shorten the time required for detection and to increase the reliability and efficiency of detection by detecting the Tx diversity of a PCCPCH by using all slots. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for detecting the application of the Tx diversity of a PCCPCH in an asynchronous W-CDMA system comprises a coefficient generator and a determiner. The coefficient generator outputs Tx diversity information, transmitted from the first or second antenna of a base station, as the first coefficient and the second coefficient according to whether a received SCH(Synchronization CHannel) slot is even or odd. Based on the first and second coefficients, the determiner determines whether a time-space Tx diversity is to be applied.
