PURPOSE: An apparatus for lifting a toilet seat is provided to reduce the burden of cleaning a western style toilet bowl and eliminate an awful feeling of touching a toilet seat unit and detect any abnormality and stopping halfway. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus(1) for lifting a toilet seat has a fixed member(2) fixed to a toilet bowl body side of a western style toilet, a movable member having a toilet seat unit attached thereto and a guide device(42) for guiding the movable member in a longitudinal direction, wherein the apparatus(1) comprises: a driving device(5) capable of lifting the movable member with respect to the fixed member(2) by power transmission; and a position detecting unit for detecting a lifting position of the movable member.
