PURPOSE: An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display), a method for manufacturing the same, and an electronic instrument using the same are provided to obtain a wide viewing angle in both a reflecting region and a transmission region by making the transmission region larger than the reflection region in a thickness of the liquid crystal layer. CONSTITUTION: The first substrate(10) is apposite to the second substrate(25). A liquid crystal layer(50) is disposed between the first and the second substrates. The first substrate has a plurality of pixel cell regions. Each pixel cell region has a reflection region(R) and a transmission region(T). The liquid crystal layer is vertically aligned in the initial alignment state. An insulating layer(26) for controlling the thickness of the liquid crystal layer is formed in the reflection region of the first substrate, thereby making the transmission region larger than the reflection region in a thickness of the liquid crystal layer. The first protruding pattern(28) is formed in the reflection region and the second protruding pattern(29) thicker than the first protruding portion is formed in the transmission regions.
