PURPOSE: A high-efficiency projection system and a color image forming method are provided to improve a color gamut and color temperature range by splitting a light from a light source into a plurality of color beams and condensing the color beams on a plurality of light valves to form a color image according to scrolling. CONSTITUTION: A projection system includes a light source(10), a color splitter(15) for splitting a beam emitted from the light source into a plurality of color beams in response to a plurality of wavelength bands, a scrolling unit(20) for scrolling the color beams, and a polarization converting system(30) for converting the beam emitted from the light source into a beam having the first polarization direction. The projection system further includes a color selector(32) for converting the polarization direction of at least part of the beam having the first polarization direction into the second polarization direction different from the first polarization direction, an image synthesizer(35) for transmitting and reflecting the beam that has passed through the color selector in response to the polarization direction, and at least two light valves(38,40) for receiving the beam from the image synthesizer and processing the received beam to form an image.
