APPARATUS AND A METHOD FOR SELECTING PIXEL DATA FOR MOTION COMPENSATION TO PREVENT OR REMOVE BLOCK ARTIFACTS CAUSED BY INACCURATELY ESTIMATED MOTION VECTORS IN PERFORMING THE MOTION COMPENSATION
PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for selecting pixel data for motion compensation are provided to prevent or remove block artifacts caused by inaccurately estimated motion vectors, in performing the motion compensation by estimating one motion vector per block. CONSTITUTION: The first storage unit(351) stores a current frame/field including the first pixel-data corresponding to at least one of candidate motion vectors as inputted. The second storage unit(361) stores a previous frame/field including the second pixel-data corresponding to at least one of the candidate motion vectors. The first and the second pixel-data extraction units(352,362) extract the first and the second pixel-data corresponding to at least one of candidate motion vectors, respectively. The first and the second compensation pixel calculation units(353,363) calculate the first and the second compensation pixel-data, respectively, for motion compensation, by adaptively applying the predetermined first weight according to the first and the second pixel-data. Herein, the calculated first and second compensation pixel-data are used for the motion compensation of a current block to be interpolated.
