DEVICE AND METHOD FOR SAFELY DOWNLOADING SOFTWARE UPGRADE FILE FROM OTA NETWORK

PURPOSE: A device and a method for safely downloading a software upgrade file from the OTA(Over-The-Air) network are provided to enable a mobile station to perform fail-safe OTA software upgrade in a way that any accidental or intentional action from a user does not make an OTA communication device disable while the software upgrade file is applied. CONSTITUTION: The device includes a non-volatile memory(270), a RAM(260), and a main processor(240). The non-volatile memory is reprogrammed by sectors, and stores a journal including multiple entries respectively containing state information for an upgrade object file, a downloaded software upgrade file, and the reprogrammed sector of the non-volatile memory. The main processor replaces an object code of the object file with a replacement code from the downloaded software upgrade file, reprograms the first object sector of the non-volatile memory by generating the first block of the replacement code of the RAM and storing the first block of the replacement code to the first object sector, and updates the first state information of the first entry of the journal related to the first object file.
