PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for collecting toll charges in a toll gate are provided to remove user complaint of toll charge by discounting toll charges of a vehicle passing plural toll gates. CONSTITUTION: The presence of a vehicle approaching a toll gate is sensed(51). The information about the toll gate is confirmed by referring to the traveling information of the vehicle(52). A passing state of other toll gates is checked during a predetermined time before the vehicle passes the present toll gate(53). The normal toll charges are imposed on the vehicle if the vehicle does not pass other toll gates during the predetermined time before the vehicle passes the present toll gate(54). The total charges including other charges of toll gates are imposed on the vehicle if the vehicle passes other toll gates during the predetermined time before the vehicle passes the present toll gate(55,56,59).
