PURPOSE: Provided is a simple production method of porous SiC preforms satisfying initial volume fraction by ball-milling and pressing the mixture of SiC, polymer former and additives. CONSTITUTION: The porous SiC preforms used in metal matrix composite is produced by the following steps of: ball milling SiC powder, polymer former, ethyl cellulose(400-500micrometer), and additives such as an inorganic binder, flocculant (polyacryl amide) and water, wherein the volume fraction of SiC and ethyl cellulose is 1:0.9 - 1:1.6 and at least 30wt.% of polyacryl amide is added; pressing the prepared slurry to decrease the moisture content of the slurry; drying through at least two steps of natural and forced (oven at 100deg.C) drying; heating over 1100deg.C at a rate of 5deg.C/min, except for the range of 250-450deg.C at a rate of 2deg.C/min.
