PURPOSE: To provide a method for removing anionic materials such as nitrate, nitrite and ortho phosphorus using cationic starches as an adsorbent for the anionic materials to reduce facility cost without large modification of an existing wastewater treatment process, operate easily the facility and prevent secondary contamination. CONSTITUTION: For the removal of anionic materials such as nitrate, ortho phosphorus, etc. contained in wastewater, the method comprises the steps of adsorbing and coagulating the anionic materials onto molecules of cationic starches into which primary, secondary and tertiary amines, imidazolines and quaternary ammonium salts are introduced; and separating the anionic materials adsorbed and coagulated, wherein the cationic starches are added to the wastewater to be treated in such an amount that moles of cations existing in the cationic starches:moles of anionic materials to be removed is 1:1 or more, and wherein the cationic starches have a degree of substitution of 0.02 to 0.9.
