PURPOSE: A method and a device for effectively detecting/correcting address information of an optical recording/reproducing apparatus are provided to carry out an error detection or error correction process in consideration of the fact that additional area data has a specific value according to a medium area, thereby obtaining a more reliable address and reliable additional information. CONSTITUTION: One of address area data is detected(51), and the detected data is written in the first register(52.1), then the data are filled in other registers by replacing with a known data value of a specific area. A portion of a detected address area is replaced with the first feature value to write the replaced value in the second register(52.2), while a portion of the detected address area is replaced with the (N-1)th feature value to write the replaced value in the Nth register(52.N). An error corrector performs error detection or error correction processes for each one of the written data(53.1-53.N), and outputs performed results(54.1-54.N). A comparator/selector determines one of the results as an address and additional information(55).
