PURPOSE: A method for controlling a transmit power in a mobile communication terminal is provided to control a power of a transmission signal within a terminal according to a power size of the first received signal and a time when an idle state continues, thereby selecting a proper transmit signal power size in accordance with an idle time of the terminal. CONSTITUTION: When a predetermined message or a paging channel message is received, an RF transceiver measures a power size of a received signal to store the measured size(S30,S31). A controller drives a counter to start counting(S32). When a call connection request is generated, the controller sends a counting end command to the counter, so that the counter can complete the counting according to the counting end command(S33,S34). The controller extracts a power size of a transmission signal in accordance with the measured power size and an idle time(S35). The controller resets a counting value by controlling the counter(S36).
