PURPOSE: A refrigerator and a method for controlling defrosting of a refrigerator are provided to restrain air heated by defrosting from flowing into a refrigerator compartment, thereby reducing power consumption due to frequent driving of a refrigerating cycle and maintaining freshness of stored foods for a long term. CONSTITUTION: An evaporator(25) is arranged in a first rear space(21) of a main body(10), and has a refrigerant pipe connected with a compressor and a condenser. A defrosting heater(27) is installed at the evaporator for defrosting the evaporator. A rear duct member(31) is arranged at one side of the evaporator facing a refrigerator compartment with both ends(31a,31b) separated from upper and lower walls(10b,10c) of the main body. A front duct member(32) is arranged in front, separated from the rear duct member to form a second space(22) with the rear duct member, and both ends(32a,32b) of the front duct member are separated from the upper and lower walls of the main body. A plurality of dampers(40) is rotatively installed at both ends of the front duct member for selectively changing a flow of air flowing in the first and second spaces and the refrigerator compartment based on relative on/off operations of the compressor and the defrosting heater.
