PURPOSE: Provided is a pharmaceutical composition which comprises shizukaol B isolated from the extract of Chloranthus japonicus. The shizukaol B inhibits cell adhesion, in particular, the expression of intracellular adhesion molecule-1(ICAM-1) in a cell. Therefore, it prevents and treats arteriosclerosis or inflammatory diseases. CONSTITUTION: The pharmaceutical composition for prevention and treatment of arteriosclerosis or inflammatory diseases is characterized by containing, as an active ingredient, shizukaol B isolated from the extract of Chloranthus japonicus, wherein the shizukaol B is represented by the formula(1) and inhibits the expression of intracellular adhesion molecule-1(ICAM-1); and the inflammatory diseases includes rheumatoid arthritis, allergic asthma, osteoporosis and the like.
