PURPOSE: An information processing apparatus, an information processing method and software are provided to remove users' inconvenience that a user must consult a dictionary in order to translate data more minutely or in full and know a usage of a word. CONSTITUTION: An input unit(101) inputs a phone number or other information. A CPU(102) controls each element according to an input through the input unit(101) based on a program stored in a memory unit(104). A photographing unit(103) converts a subject, such as a figure of a person, a landscape or a character, into image information that can be handled by a CPU(102). The converted image information is displayed on a display unit(107) as necessary. A user instructs photographing by means of a shutter by selecting an image desired to be photographed while monitoring the image information displayed on the display unit(107). When the shutter is pressed, the photographed image information is stored in a memory unit(104). The memory unit(104) also stores data or software handled by a mobile phone. An image recognition unit(105) recognizes identification information such as a character or a symbol included in the image information. A communication unit(108) performs communication to access the Internet or other information processing device. A search unit(109) searches identification information identical to identification information obtained by the image recognition unit(105) with reference to dictionary data(106). The CPU(102) determines whether a photograph mode is a general photograph mode for photographing a still image or video or a recognition mode for recognizing identification information by using a mode determination flag.
