PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for identifying a gap filler in a satellite broadcast system are provided to prevent performance of a receiver from being lowered suddenly when the receiver moves by simultaneously receiving signals from as many gap fillers as possible. CONSTITUTION: A satellite receive tuner demodulates a signal received from a broadcast satellite. A pattern recognition part separates a broadcast data channel from a signal outputted from the satellite receive tuner. A modulation part modulates a signal of the separated channel and thereby forms a frame. A gap filler identifier generator inserts information of a gap filler identifier into a control channel that has information of the broadcast data channel included in a signal outputted from the modulation part.
