PURPOSE: A device and a method for detecting a photographing direction of an external camera of a portable terminal are provided to comprise a permanent magnet in an external camera, and to automatically sense a photographing direction of the camera by detecting magnetic flux of the permanent magnet, thereby automatically revising a position of an image signal. CONSTITUTION: A portable terminal decides whether an image is photographed(S100). If so, the terminal decides whether a magnetic field is detected(S110). If so, the terminal inputs an image signal without revising the signal(S120). If the magnetic field is not detected, the terminal converts the inputted image signal such that the converted image signal can have the same display direction as the detected image signal(S130). The terminal displays and transmits the processed image signal(S140).
