PURPOSE: A method for correcting speaker characteristics setting target frequency characteristics automatically and an apparatus thereof are provided to have optimum impulse characteristics as being fitted to the physical characteristics of a speaker. CONSTITUTION: According to the method for correcting speaker characteristics, impulse response characteristics of a speaker are measured by inputting a signal(310). The converted frequency response characteristics are analyzed after the impulse response characteristics are converted into frequency response characteristics(320). Low band and high band roll-off area and a dip area above a fixed level are detected from the frequency response characteristics(330,350). An average level in an area except the roll-off area and the dip area is calculated and is determined as target frequency response characteristics(370). Then, frequency response characteristics are corrected by comparing the target frequency response characteristics with the frequency response characteristics of the speaker.
