PURPOSE: A device and a method for detecting a tray opening/closing action of an optical disk drive are provided to detect an open-complete state of a tray from a disk drive by using a write prevention tab recognition switch of a disk cartridge or a switch for detecting a used surface of the disk cartridge, thereby reducing the number of parts of the disk drive. CONSTITUTION: The first and third projections(161,163) are separated from each other at certain intervals. The first contact switch(151) is selectively contacted with the first projection(161). The third contact switch(153) is used to detect whether a write prevention tab is on, on a disk surface of a disk cartridge in connection with a lower surface of the disk cartridge. The fourth contact switch(154) for detecting a groove formed on a disk is separated from the disk cartridge since a sub deck(115) is rotated downward. The fourth contact switch(154) is on by the third projection(163), and a tray is detected to be fully open.
