PURPOSE: A method for controlling LCD power in a mobile terminal having a touch screen LCD and a mobile terminal adopting the same are provided to minimize battery consumption by automatically turning off an unnecessary LCD in the middle of telephone conversation. CONSTITUTION: If a user opens the folder of a mobile terminal to make a call(310), an LCD touch screen detects whether the user's face is touched with the LCD(320). If the user's face is not touched with the LCD, the LCD is automatically turned on(350). However, in case that it is judged that the user's face is touched with the LCD, the LCD touch screen judges whether the touched state is maintained for more than 2 or 3 seconds(330). If the touched state is maintained for more than 2 or 3 seconds, the LCD touch screen turns off the LCD(340).
