PURPOSE: A method for converting a communication mode in a dual mode communication terminal is provided to convert a communication mode by deciding whether it is easy to access a communication network which attempts roaming, and to prevent a roaming operation from being repeated owing to a failed communication module, thereby reducing power consumption without causing a failure in a stable call connection. CONSTITUTION: A system decides whether a roaming process is available referring to a specific bit. If so, the system decides whether a quality of a receiving signal is less than a certain level and the quality continues at more than a certain time. If so, the system confirms that a WCDMA module is in failure mode. The system operates a current communication mode as a CDMA mode, and prohibits the communication mode from converting into a WCDMA mode. The system outputs a repair request for the WCDMA module on a display window.
