PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for controlling a peripheral device activation signal according to an operation state of a mobile terminal are provided to reduce a load of a calculating/controlling unit by allowing it not to always apply an activation signal to a peripheral device driving unit periodically, and thus enhance an operation processing speed. CONSTITUTION: When a mobile terminal is turned on(300), a temperature compensation type crystal oscillator activation signal generated from a power management unit is applied to a display driving unit(301). The display driving unit is driven and outputs a screen from a main display unit or/and an auxiliary display unit(302). It is checked whether the mobile terminal is open(303). If the mobile terminal is open, the temperature compensation type crystal oscillator activation signal is continuously applied to the display driving unit(304). It is checked whether an image photograph input signal is generated(305). When the image photograph input signal is generated, the temperature compensation type crystal oscillator activation signal is applied to a camera driving unit(306). The camera driving unit is driven and obtains an image from a camera unit(307).
