PURPOSE: A circuit arrangement for protecting from a shock voltage is provided to achieve highly reliable protection against impulse voltages, without the necessity of manual adjustment after occurrence of impulse voltages in order to supply a voltage once more to a unit to be supplied with a voltage. CONSTITUTION: A circuit arrangement comprises an input, an output, and a protection circuit. The input has a first input connection portion and a second input connection portion which are capable of coupling a voltage which is loaded with an impulse voltage and corresponds to the system voltage or is derived from the system voltage. The output has a first output connection portion and a second output connection portion where the unit to be protected is coupled. The protection circuit is coupled between the first and second input connection portions or output portions. The protection circuit has a limiting device(12) designed to limit the voltage at the protection circuit. The protection circuit further includes a switching device(10), and a driver circuit for driving the switching device. The switching element is designed as a semiconductor component. The switching element is arranged in serial to the limiting device, and designed to be switched on a first trigger criterion and switched off on a second trigger criterion.
