PURPOSE: An FFS(Fringe Field Switching) mode LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) is provided to enhance polarization efficiency of liquid crystals and improve operating mura(that is, non-uniformity of luminance) and afterimages(that is, unstableness of the liquid crystals due to an unstable operation) generated in a gray region of a wedge portion of pixel electrode, by locating the wedge portion of pixel electrode within a region of the conductive black matrix. CONSTITUTION: A lower substrate(30) is opposite to an upper substrate(40). A gate line and a data line(35) crossing perpendicular to the gate line are formed over the lower substrate. The first ITO electrode(37) is formed in a region defined by the gate line and the data line. The second ITO electrode(39) of a comb pattern is formed over the lower substrate, wherein the second ITO electrode overlaps with the first ITO electrode. A black matrix(41) is formed on the upper substrate. A wedge portion of the second ITO electrode is located at a position spaced by a predetermined interval to the inside from the edge of the black matrix.
