PURPOSE: A method for controlling an address power of a plasma display panel and a method for the same are provided to effectively control the address power consumption by operating the address power recovery circuit based on dividing the image data to be displayed into each sub-field. CONSTITUTION: A method for controlling an address power of a plasma display panel includes the steps of: converting the image data to be displayed on the plasma display panel into the corresponding sub-field data; computing the amount of data changes for each sub-field by analyzing the converted sub-field data; stopping the operation of the address power recovery circuit; and operating the address power recovery circuit for the sub-field having the amount of the calculated data change for each sub-field larger than the specific threshold value.
