PURPOSE: A self-monitoring method using spectrum analysis in a BTU(Base station Test Unit) is provided to test the fault generation state of a base station in a BTU internally. CONSTITUTION: A manager previously sets a spectrum wave form for an ideal signal and a tolerance range for spectrum level values(400). A BTU detects an indexed level value for each frequency from the diagram of a spectrum wave form for an actually measured signal and forms a table having coordinate values composed of frequencies and level values(410). The BTU compares the spectrum table for the preset ideal signal with the spectrum table for actual signals and calculates an error value for each frequency(420). The BTU executes a spectrum wave form test and a power test by using the calculated error values(430,440). In case that it is judged that a fault has been generated in the process of the spectrum wave form test or the power test, the BTU outputs a fault generation signal to inform the manager that a fault has occurred at a base station(450).
