PURPOSE: A converter operation method is provided which is capable of suppressing generation of slopping even without lowering of oxygen blowing rate during blowing by performing converter operation after obtaining accurate quantity of residual slag in which it needs not worry about generation of slopping. CONSTITUTION: In a converter operation method for tapping molten steel in converter obtained through oxygen blowing into ladle, the converter operation method for preventing generation of slopping comprises a step of obtaining a slag production quantity (Wproduct(n+1)) in (n+1)th converter operation from conditions of principal raw materials and subsidiary raw materials to be charged into converter before performing the (n+1)th converter operation; a step of obtaining a critical slag quantity (Wc) in the (n+1)th converter operation; a step of obtaining a slag quantity (Wretained(n)) retained after performing 'n' th converter operation by subtracting the slag production quantity in the (n+1)th converter operation from the obtained critical slag quantity (Wc) in the (n+1)th converter operation; a step of obtaining slag quantity (Wslag-off(n)) to be slagged off after performing the 'n' th converter operation; and a step of performing the (n+1)th converter operation after slagging off the obtained slag quantity to be slagged off after performing the 'n' th converter operation as tapping molten steel in the converter into the ladle in the 'n' th converter operation.
