Method of recognizing face using component-based 2nd order ICA/PCA and apparatus thereof

PURPOSE: A method and a device for recognizing a face using the component based PCA/ICA(Principal Component Analysis/Independent Component Analysis) are provided to generate the characteristic information for the face, and to recognize and search the face by using the component based PCA/ICA. CONSTITUTION: An image divider(1421) generates a divided image by dividing the original face image information into each face components included in the face image information. A low pass filter(1422) generates the low band filtering image information removing a high frequency component from the divided image information by performing the PCA to the divided image information. A remaining image generator(1423) generates the remaining image information only remaining the high frequency component from the divide image information. An ICA coefficient matrix calculator(1424) generates the first characteristic information matched with the divided image information by performing the ICA to the remaining image information again, and generates the second characteristic information, which is a set of the first characteristic information.
