To provide a method for treating sewage and wastewater promptly and efficiently. A method for treating sewage and wastewater comprises: a step of promoting activation of microorganisms, removing nitrate of influent and discharging phosphorous by flowing sewage and wastewater and some of microbial sludge from a final sedimentation tank into a phosphorous discharge tank, thereby cultivating the sewage and wastewater and some of microbial sludge under anaerobic conditions; a step of stably adhering organic matter to microorganisms by flowing all of reaction solution into an adsorption tank from the phosphorous discharge tank, thereby cultivating the reaction solution under quasi-aerobic conditions; a step of flowing all of mixed solution into a primary sedimentation tank from the adsorption tank such that the mixed solution is separated into microbial sludge and supernatant; a step of discharging some of the microbial sludge from the primary sedimentation tank, thereby disusing the discharged microbial sludge, transferring some of the microbial sludge into a denitrification tank and transferring the supernatant into a nitrification tank; a step of nitrifying ammonia nitrogen or nitrite nitrogen by flowing some of the mixed solution into the nitrification tank containing the supernatant transferred from the primary sedimentation tank from a phosphorous absorption tank, thereby cultivating the mixed solution under aerobic conditions; a step of denitrifying nitrate by mixing the supernatant containing nitrate flown in from the nitrification tank with the microbial sludge in the denitrification tank, thereby cultivating the mixture under anoxic tank conditions, wherein organic matter flown in from the primary sedimentation tank is adhered or adsorbed onto the microbial sludge; a step of flowing a mixed solution into a phosphorous absorption tank from the denitrification tank to cultivate the mixed solution under aerobic conditions such that phosphorous accumulated microorganisms discharge PHA(polyhydroxyalkanoate) and excessively absorb phosphorous, returning some of the mixed solution to the nitrification tank from the phosphorous absorption tank and transferring some of the mixed solution to the final sedimentation tank; and a step of separating the mixed solution flown in from the phosphorous absorption tank into supernatant and microbial sludge in the final sedimentation tank, discharging the supernatant, discharging and disusing some of the microbial sludge and returning some of the microbial sludge to the phosphorous discharge tank.
