PURPOSE: An apparatus for releasing a secondary battery is provided to prevent the exterior short with a cap assembly and safely release the cap assembly by cutting the lower end of the can and completely cutting the can. CONSTITUTION: A lower corner of a can(2) of a secondary battery is grinded and cut off by using a grinder. A tip(2a) is formed by cutting off the lower end of the cut off can to form a tip(2a). The tip(2a) is grasped by a ripper(20), and a tube-shaped chip is generated. After the can is cut off, a positive pole is cut off, and an electrode roll(8) is separated. According to the apparatus for releasing a secondary battery, the exterior short with a cap assembly is prevented and the cap assembly safely released by cutting the lower end of the can and completely cutting the can.
