The invention relates to a multifunctional device which is especially characterized in that one tool or several tools can be displaced with respect to the work piece on a tool holder during revolution independently of the tool holder and independently of one another. At the same time, the displacement of the tool with respect to the work piece can also be stopped. The multifunctional device according to the invention has a modular structure and comprises a solid shaft or hollow shaft with a carriage drive located therein, at least one gear assembly and the drives, and the tool holder with one or several carriages. Two multifunctional devices that are positioned with respect to each other such that the tool holders are opposite and the work piece is in between them are inter alia useful for treating the two ends of especially disengagable pipe joint sections in the form of pipe couplings.
