FIELD: high-voltage power engineering; lightning arresters and power transmission lines equipped with lightning arresters. ; SUBSTANCE: proposed lightning arrester has antenna electrically connected to spark gap that can be built around one or more gaps of known type, such as rod, valve, or better long-spark gaps. Antenna mechanical design and its ways of connection to spark gap are chosen to provide for setting up potential across spark gap equal to or higher than its operating potential on approach of lighting channel to equipment under protection before lightning channel comes in contact with line components. Antenna may be built in the form of wire section whose length depends on voltage class of line being protected, on calculated distance from point of lightning stroke to spark gap, and on other factors; preferable length of antenna is between 1 and 20 m. In order to enhance the operating effectiveness of antenna its top end can be connected to support insulator mounted on top of supporting structure and provided with metal rod pointing upwards. As an alternative, metal guy of supporting structure, metal cross-arm isolated from other components of supporting structure, or ground wire may be used as antenna. ; EFFECT: provision for arrester operation ahead of lightning stroke within specified interval. ; 31 cl, 8 dwg
