The invention relates to a method and a device for analyzing chemical elements that are dissolved in aqueous solutions by means of spark source spectrography. The aim of the invention is to provide a method and a device that allow for easy sampling and analysis of small sample amounts or flowing solutions without substantially modifying or disintegrating the same. Also, a long service life of the electrodes used shall be guaranteed. According to the invention, the solution to be analyzed itself constitutes an electrode of the spark gap, the spark consisting, chronologically seen, of a breakdown spark and a continued spark. When the defined plasma thereby produced electrically breaks down, the breakdown effect known from laser spectrometry occurs which allows for an optical analysis. The characteristic emission of light occurring during breakdown is analyzed in an optical analyzer with respect to wavelength, the breakdown time can be referred to for specific analysis as well. The aqueous liquid is filled into a sample recipient or is branched off from a process, and the measurement is carried out while the liquid flows. The design of the spectrometer is simple and can be robust.
