A long woven mesh strip is passed through a die (11,12) and at least one of the edges is embedded in a molten extruded plastic profile. The mesh openings are initially penetrated by the plastic which then completely encloses the mesh fibers. An independent claim is made for the process equipment including a die with a profile-forming channel (13) fed by a channel (17). A flat gap (18) for guiding the woven mesh extends from one end of the die to the other and intersects the cavity.
