The braking and automatic transmission control system senses various factors acting on the road vehicle and calculates a correction for the amount of braking force applied to achieve a given rate of deceleration. It performs several computational steps to adjust braking force in response to external factors and action of transmission. The computational steps involve:- (a) production of a correction factor for calculation of an estimated value for braking force on start of braking (10), (b) production of a first estimated braking force (11), (c) determination of driving force using a given mathematical formula (12), (d) calculation of rolling resistance using a given mathematical formula (13), (e) calculation of air drag (14), (f) calculation of resistance to acceleration (15), (g) calculation of resistance due to gradient involving GPS signals (16), (h) calculation of braking correction value (17), (i) calculation of actual barking force required (18), (j) calculation of a new proportionality factor (19), (k) end of program (20).
