A resilient and flexible apron (9) has its top edge (8) attached to the front bumper (7). The apron may be retracted (RL) against the underside of the bodywork (10) or an airbag (11) may be inflated (ZB) to extend the apron into its deployed position (BS) where it acts as an anti-dive-under protection (UE). An impulse sensor (13) and a control circuit (16) are connected to an igniter (15) and a pyrotechnic charge (14) to rapidly inflate the bag. An air pump (17) may maintain the bag in the inflated state.
