Paper industry assembly for the manufacture of a multi-layered web of paper or carton combines layers at a single couching station with overhead de-watering belts

A paper industry assembly (10) manufactures a multi-layered fibrous web of paper or carton. The assembly has gap former stations (12, 14) for the respective layers (A, B). Two layers generated by the gap formers are combined by overhead dewatering belts (18, 18') together forming a couching station (26). The dewatering belt (18) that picks up the combined layers (A, B) passes the combined web over a de-watering suction roller or shoe (30). In a preferred embodiment the two top-mounted de-watering belts are separated to provide for single-former operation, allowing simultaneous manufacture of two fibrous webs, each adhering to a single overhead sieve. Alternatively one gap forming station may be operated alone in association with the pickup station.
