Device for detecting arcing in an electric circuit, especially a motor vehicle power supply network, has filter means for selecting a particular frequency range of current flowing in the circuit and evaluation means for evaluated the filtered current signal. The filter means comprises high pass (8) and low pass (9) filter elements. The filtered current signals from both elements are evaluated to detect arcing. An independent claim is made for a method for detecting arcing in which high and low frequency components are evaluated according to predefined criteria in order to detect arcing.
