A process for constructing a tyre carcass, comprises placing the carcass material onto an outer cylindrical surface formed by a central drum and two hollow cylindrical side drums. The side drums are arranged coaxially with respect to the central drum, and the carcass materials are prevented from slipping by a pressing member. A process for constructing a tyre carcass (19), comprises placing the carcass material (20) onto an outer cylindrical surface formed by a central drum (2) and two hollow cylindrical side drums (5). The side drums are arranged coaxially with respect to the central drum, and the carcass materials are prevented from slipping by a pressing member (11). Two ring shaped head sections (6) are arranged coaxially with respect to the central drum, and have core tensioning segments (8) and an inflatable bellows (10). The side drums are moved axially from the central drum, so the carcass material on the outer cylindrical surfaces is only supported by the high shoulder segments, and the edge of the material extends over the shoulder. Two core locating members are located each side of the drum, and the tensioning segments of the head sections are moved radially outwards. The arrangement used to carry out the process includes spring elements which are arranged coaxially on each side of the drum.
