Method for producing a multi-color image of a sample with a scanning microscope has the following steps: determination of the chromatic aberration of the excitation and or detection beams; scanning and recording of an image of the sample with a first wavelength illumination beam; repetition of the previous step with a second wavelength beam; correction of first and or second image position data using the calculated chromatic aberration or color length error data and; generation of an image using the first and second corrected image data sets. An independent claim is made for a scanning microscope for generating a color image of a sample.
